BEERSTORY

Beerstory, or beer history, is rich in Boston.

According to the American Homebrewer's Association, during the early years of American colonialism, brewing beer was considered a sanitary alternative to drinking water since beer did not provide an environment conducive to pathogen growth.

The American Homebrewers Association, founded in 1978, documented the history of brewing in America and the timeline during which it became an integral part of American culture. Hover your mouse over the image below to view an interactive timeline of beer history in Boston.

The early affinity for beer established in New England paved the way for Boston to become a hub of new breweries and home brewers.
